Make-up Examination
A student who is absent from an examination due to extenuating circumstances such as illness, injury or other personal emergencies may submit a completed
Application Form for Make-up Examination
within five working days from the date of the missed examination for consideration by the Academic Registry and the relevant Department/Programme Office.
If the absence is due to illness, the application should include both a sick leave certificate and the
Form of Medical Certificate
completed by a qualified medical practitioner recommending for sick leave on the date of the missed examination.
Students will be notified of the result of their applications for make-up examination by early January / June via email.
A fee will be charged for each make-up examination.
Date, time and venue of the make-up examinations will be announced at the Academic Registry’s homepage one week before the make-up examination period. Students are required to check the details at the Academic Registry's homepage.
When students apply to the Academic Registry for make-up examinations, the following situations would normally not be considered:
Elective surgery scheduled to be held on an examination day; or
Public examinations such as A-Level Examination, TOEFL, SAT, GRE, GMAT, etc., held on an examination day; or
Having forgotten or misread the examination schedule.
The course instructor should set a new examination question paper for the make-up examination. The relevant Department/Programme will decide if the grades for the make-up examinations should be downgraded.
A student who is absent from an examination and does not apply for a make-up examination or the application is disapproved, will receive zero mark for that examination.
No further arrangements would be made for students who are absent from the scheduled make-up examinations.
