New Approach on Class Scheduling and Course Registration  ( 29 April 2011 )
After thorough deliberation and consultation, the University has decided to adopt a new approach on class scheduling and course registration starting form 2011-12. The main purpose of the new approach is to enable students to plan their study for the whole year, instead of the present approach which only provides course information and class timetable for one semester.

Currently, students are requested to participate in an Early Registration Exercise where they indicate their preferred elective courses. A timetable for each semester will then be scheduled, taking into consideration students’ course choices. Though most students will be given the course choices they have indicated during the Early Registration Exercise, many students expressed that their timetable is far from satisfactory. As a result, a high percentage of students add/drop courses at the beginning of each semester.

Under the new approach, the Academic Registry (AR) will in July each year releases class timetable (2 semesters) for the following academic year, using which students will participate in the Pre-Registration Exercise to indicate preferences of elective courses. Students will then be assigned elective courses according to their preferences. It should be noted that not all students’ preferences can be entertained owing to constraints such as quota availability, time conflict among courses.

For your information, the Pre-Registration exercise for 2011/12 has been scheduled for late July. More details about the Pre-Registration Exercise will be sent to you in early July via email.
