English Bridging Course

 

        

        While you are studying here, it is very important to master the English language well as English is our medium of instruction. In order to better prepare you for your studies in the University, you are required to take the captioned course in the University before the semester starts if you have not obtained Grade D or above in the Advanced Supplementary Level “Use of English”.

 

         The University accepts the following qualifications as equivalent to Grade D or above in AS Use of English.  Therefore, if you have acquired any one of the following qualifications, you may be exempted from the English Bridging Course:

                                                                                                               

         -      a score of 550 (paper-based) / 213 (computer-based) /80 (Internet-based) or above in TOEFL

         -      a score of 7.0 or above in International English Language Testing System (IELTS), Academic Level

-             Grade C or above in GCE O-Level / GCSE English

-             Grade D or above in GCE AS Level or AL English

-             Score 4 or above out of 7 in IB English A1 or 2.

 

         If you are required to take the course, you will be assigned to a class from August 17 to August 23, 2011 (weekdays), or from August 24 to August 30, 2011 (weekdays).  Detailed class information is listed on the “Schedule for University Life, Orientation and Course Registration”. Please note that if you fail to complete the course, your unsatisfactory performance in the course will be shown on your academic transcript.
